Support
Write to us at support@daveonduty.co.uk. Tell us your phone or browser and what you saw, and send a backup file if the question is about your sill.
Back up your sill
Open ··· → Settings → Data → Back up this sill.
- On Android the share sheet opens. Save the file to your files or cloud storage, or send it to yourself.
- In a browser it downloads.
The file is called sill-one-backup- followed by the date, and ends in .json. It holds the whole sill: every pot, the seed pouch, your Leaf Points, the notebook, the cultivar register, what you have bought, and your settings. Two things are not in it:
- the growth album. Its pictures stay on the device that took them;
- your account’s sign-in.
Make a backup before you change phone, reset one, or clear a browser.
Restore a backup
Open ··· → Settings → Data → Restore from a backup and choose the file. On a new install, the first screen also has Restore a backup.
A restore replaces the sill that is there, and asks first. Restoring the same file twice gives you exactly what restoring it once does. The plants carry on from where the file left them, so they are not aged through the time in between. A free trial that has been used stays used. A subscription running on this device is not shortened.
While you are signed in to an account, a backup cannot be restored: your sill is the one your account keeps. Sign out first.
A new phone
With an account, your sill moves by itself. Install Sill One on the new phone and sign in to the same account (on the first screen, I have played before). Your plants arrive at their real age, with your seeds and Leaf Points. If the new phone already has plants of its own, it keeps a copy of that sill, and its plants wait under ··· → Settings → Account → Set-aside plants until you plant them in an empty pot or let them go.
Without an account, a backup file is how your sill moves:
- On the old phone, make a backup and put it somewhere the new phone can reach.
- Install Sill One on the new phone, and on the first screen choose I have played before, then the backup file.
- Open Shop → Restore purchases to bring back subscriptions and the pots you bought with money, signed in to the same Google account. Google Play cannot restore Leaf Points. Those come back with the backup.
Either way, the album does not move. Android’s own phone backup may bring Sill One’s sill across by itself, if backup is on for your Google account. Do not rely on it. Make a backup file.
Staying signed in
With an account, you stay signed in on a phone until you choose ··· → Settings → Account → Sign out. If a phone loses the sign-in by itself, the game tells you once: “You were signed out of your account on this device. Your plants are safe here: sign in again in Settings to keep them in step.” On Android, if you signed in with Google, it first tries to sign you back in quietly as the same account, and says “Signed in again.” when it has. Nothing is lost either way: your plants stay on the phone.
One plant stands in one pot, on every phone you sync. A pot you bought on another phone arrives on this one at its next sync.
Notifications
They are off until you say yes. Sill One asks once, at your first shoot, or you can turn them on at ··· → Settings → Notifications. They tell you:
- when the soil has dried to the bottom of its band;
- when it is noon on the plant’s day, and time for its album picture;
- when something happens for the first time, such as a first shoot, a first flower or ripe seed.
You get two a day at most, and none between 21:00 and 07:00. A notification due in the night moves to 08:00. You will never get one because you have been away.
Not arriving?
- Check that notifications for Sill One are allowed in your phone’s settings.
- On Android 14 and later, they can arrive a few minutes late, because the phone batches alarms to save battery. If your phone restricts background activity for Sill One, they may come later still.
- In a browser, notifications only arrive while the page is open.
Adverts and Leaf Points (Android)
Sill One shows an advert only when you ask for one: Watch a short ad · 3 LP, in the Shop and on the Leaf Points page. Each one watched to the end adds 3 Leaf Points, up to three a day.
I watched it and got nothing.
The points are added only when Google reports the advert as finished. If it was closed early, stopped loading, or the connection dropped, nothing is added, and it does not count towards your three. Try again. If a whole advert played and nothing arrived, write to us with the time it happened.
“No ad is available just now.”
Google had no advert to show at that moment, which is common in a new app and in some countries. It costs you nothing; try later. Adverts need a connection; the rest of the game does not.
“No ads in this test version.”
You are playing a version from Sill One’s Google Play test (1.3 or earlier), which had no adverts. Update Sill One from Google Play: from version 1.4 the short videos play as normal.
“The offer is back tomorrow.”
You have had your three for today. The offer returns after midnight on your phone.
I subscribe and see no advert offer.
That is on purpose. Plus and Plus Away subscribers, and anyone on the free trial, are never offered adverts.
Choosing about personalised adverts
In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, Google asks you first whether it may use your data to personalise adverts. To change your answer: ··· → Settings → Data → Privacy choices, which appears wherever Google says you must be able to. Anywhere, you can delete or reset your advertising ID in your phone’s settings (usually Settings → Privacy → Ads, or Settings → Google → Ads). More in the privacy policy.
An advert I did not like
Tap the small AdChoices or info mark on the advert to report it to Google, and tell us which it was. Adverts in Sill One are limited to those rated for teens (T) or below.
Subscriptions (Android)
- Cancel in the Play Store: Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Sill One. You keep it to the end of the period you paid for. Uninstalling the game does not cancel a subscription.
- The free trial lasts 7 days and becomes a paid subscription on day 8 unless you cancel before then. Google allows one per Google account.
- Refunds go through Google Play’s refund policy, or write to us.
“The browser’s storage is full”
If you see a bar saying “The browser’s storage is full, so the sill is not being saved…”, the device has no room for Sill One’s save. The plant keeps growing while the app is open, but the device will not remember it.
- Tap Save a backup straight away.
- Free some space on the device, then reopen Sill One. If the bar comes back, write to us and attach the backup.
“This browser is not letting Sill One save” means a private window, or site data being blocked. Leave the private window, or allow site data for the page.
If either happens just after a purchase, Sill One says so. A purchase from Google Play keeps its receipt there. A purchase made with Leaf Points is saved together with the points it cost, or not at all.
Other messages
- “This sill could not be read.” Part of the save is damaged. Nothing has been written over it. Restore a backup puts the sill back as it was when the file was made. Start again begins that part afresh.
- “Sill One has been opened in another tab or window…” Two copies were open, so one stopped to keep them from writing over each other. Close the extra one.
Delete your data
- Android: uninstall Sill One, or clear its storage in the phone’s app settings. This deletes the sill and the album. Make a backup first if you might want them back.
- Your account and the copy of your game it keeps: ··· → Settings → Account → Delete this account (it is erased 7 days later, and until then you can keep it), or write to support@daveonduty.co.uk. More on the account and data deletion page, and in the privacy policy.
